New Trends in Indian Aesthetics: Gen Z's Growing Interest in Cosmetic Surgery

New Trends in Indian Aesthetics

India is not an exception to the global trend of younger people around the world being ardent supporters of cosmetic surgery, especially those between the ages of 21 and 30. Experts estimate that within the past ten years, the number of cosmetic procedures performed nationwide has increased by at least three times.

Young Indians are becoming increasingly popular with more advanced cosmetic operations than just Botox. These surgeries include body contouring, face shaping, and nose jobs. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery declared liposuction to be the most popular cosmetic surgical operation in 2021. It increased by an astounding 24.8%, outpacing breast augmentation by a wide margin with over 1.9 million procedures performed.

The global acceptance and accessibility of cosmetic surgery has been a major factor in this change in culture. Parents frequently give their kids cosmetic procedures like blepharoplasty as graduation presents in nations like South Korea. It's clear that physical attractiveness matters in professional contexts; in South Korea, 80% of recruiters place a high value on it when evaluating candidates.

This opinion is supported by Dr. Amit Gupta, Founder and Director of Divine Aesthetics LLP, who says, "Gen Z's growing trend of cosmetic surgery is driven by their understanding of cosmetic procedures and clarity with their goals." Their strong expectations while choosing surgery can also be understood as stemming from their desire for individuality and self-expression. The younger folks see these operations as a way to embody their true identities and match their outward look with their inner self.
